The Sleigh fleet
has recently been joined by a 1982 T3 Camper. Paul can now be seen driving an
excellent example of a Westfalia camper.
A
new family addition in the form of a Boxer pup forced a rethink for holiday and
show transport. The Boxer is banned from the Mk 3 Golf Cabrio so something had
to be done to make residing at Volkswagen events more comfortable than a tent.
Purchased locally in Telford at a very reasonable price, the Cream (Paint code L567) 2 litre air-cooled Westfalia Joker 2 was brought to its new home on Saturday April 5th 2003. Having seen little use for some months there were a number of minor things to attend to before a new MOT could be sought and passed. These amounted to replacing a front wheel bearing, freeing a stiff front brake calliper, fitting new wiper blades and fixing a loose bulb in the after market rear fog light. Soon to be replaced by the correct rear light unit we hope!
As a few miles (kilometres really) were put on the clock the expected little niggles appeared, pushrod tube oil seals, stiff gear linkage and a Eberspacher heater that refused to fire up. Plus the essential full service as its history is somewhat uncertain.
More detail of the repairs and renovations done to this camper will appear in 'Club News' soon, anyone interested in these conversions is most welcome to come along and share their knowledge with us at the VWOC(GB) Club Shop at any of the events that we attend around the country.
