The VWOC (GB) August Bank Holiday, Car display / Camping Weekend.

Wow, what a title ! Couldn’t think of anything else to call it !

Goodbye Town & Country Festival;-

For those of you who don’t know yet, the T & C Festival is very sadly no longer in existence. The R.A.S.E (the organisers) have decided, that due to financial reasons, the August Bank Holiday show, that we have attended for the at least the last 12 / 13 years, will stop with the 2006 show. There are no plans to have any more.

There will be a ‘Countryside and Food Fair’ in early August, at the Stoneleigh showground, but there will NOT be a Classic Car section.

* For the sake of ‘new members’ who’re not sure what I’m on about;- Basically, the Town & Country Festival was like a huge ‘Fete’ type event that was held in Warwickshire during August. Predominantly ‘Country Pursuit’ orientated, this show also included a ‘food tasting hall’, a ‘shopping section’, ‘animal interactive section’, loads of stalls selling everything you can think of, and an enormous arena holding Motorcycle displays and such like. Our club was displaying vehicles in the Classic Car section.

I attended, as many others did, the Town & Country Festival for 10 years. My first one being in 1996, when our very own Robert Rawson organised the VWOC stand. At that time, I had a 1992 Polo. I remember this particular show fondly, probably because it was the first one I had done. We had a really great time. My good friend Roy Eastwood was there, and it poured it down all morning. However, the afternoon was beautiful. As I enjoyed it so much, Roy, my wife and myself decided to attend the next year, and so on. Each year seemed to bring out the same old faces, and we all would have a really fantastic time.

Hello VWOC (GB) August Bank Holiday Camping Weekend:-

At a recent Clubnight I attended, the idea of a camping weekend was branded around. With the demise of the aforementioned Town & Country, there will be a big ‘void’ in our events calendar. To fill that gap, it was suggested that we choose a nice campsite, and camp over the Bank Holiday Weekend.

I myself thought that as we have so many members dotted around the country, we should probably locate a campsite fairly central to everyone (if that’s possible !) Derbyshire / The Peak District way was my initial idea, as we have regular T & C attendees from Sheffield / Bradford, as well as the Midlands. If anyone has any other thoughts or ideas, my contact details will be at the bottom of this article. I’ve looked at a few campsites on the internet, and they all seem to be really nice. I guess we’ll need one with plenty of space, or a spare field.

If anyone is interested in coming along to the VWOC (GB) August Camping Weekend, let me know so we can work out numbers. This is open to ALL members, old or new.
The date for this weekend will be;- Friday 24th August
  Saturday 25th August
  Sunday 26th August
  Monday 27th August
