Tenby is on the South Coast of Wales in between Pembroke and Swansea. It is
located in the beautiful Carmarthen Bay which is in the county of Dyfed. The
town itself is quite easily reached from most areas. From the Midlands we took
the M5, then onto the M50, which takes you on to the A40. The A40 then takes you
the rest of the way there. Some of it dual carriageway, and some of it twisty
winding road. Tenby is a beautiful little place. Very picturesque, very quaint,
and very ‘picture postcard’ pretty. There is plenty to do in the town, parking
is good, and there are plenty of café’s, restaurants, shops and a couple of pubs
too ! The beach is just perfect, and the surrounding scenery is breathtaking. To
spend the day there (as we did) wasn’t enough really, as it’s such a lovely
little place.
The Camp Site we stayed on was about 3 or 4 miles outside Tenby, in a small
village called Manorbier. It is quite a large site but is mainly dedicated to
Static Holiday Homes. The camping and caravanning area is on a smaller scale,
and over towards the left hand side of the park. The campsite is very well laid
out, with plenty of room on the pitches. However, depending on where you’re
situated, some of the site is on a slight slope. Electric hook up is available,
but would have to be booked, as not every pitch has it. Obviously there is water
available from the standpipes and the toilet / shower block which is basic, but
extremely clean and tidy and has everything you need. The toilet block has
heating too, if you’re camping or caravanning outside of the main season.
Adjacent to the camping area, there is a childrens play area, and a car park.
However, you can if you so wish, park next to your tent / caravan.
The site has all the amenities associated with much larger sites. There is a
small shop selling basic groceries, Gas and Newspapers etc, 2 childrens play
areas (one for smaller children too), a Health Suite and Gymnasium, a
Launderette, a small family Amusement Arcade / Games Room, a heated Indoor
Swimming Pool, Tennis Court, Bar and Restaurant / Café’, and an Internet Room !
You could more than likely spend the week on the site, and not have to go
anywhere, as everything is there for you !
Tenby is very well situated for exploring South Wales. The surrounding area is
rich with Welsh history and beauty, and quite a few Castles are dotted about.
Manorbier itself has a beautiful Castle, which overlooks it’s very own
picturesque unspoilt cove and beach. In one direction there is Pembroke with its
docks, and in the other is Saundersfoot, which is a small but pretty little
fishing village. Further a field is Amroth or Swansea.
We visited Manorbier Country Park in April of 2006 and we had a fantastic time.
However it was so cold when we went it was difficult to explore too widely. We
have re-booked to visit again and would very much recommend this park. Our
driving time from Solihull (just South of Birmingham), was about 4 hours and was
about 190 miles.
Prices vary depending on when you go of course, but during October, it was
£15.50 per pitch for 4 people. Not too sure if this includes electric hook up
though, so I guess it’s best to phone and book first.
