When the 'Dubfreeze' tickets arrive on our doorstep we know the VW Show Season has started. Dubfreeze takes place every year on or about the third weekend in February - this year on the 22nd. It is organised by an experienced group of VW enthusiasts - many of whom also help out at other premier VW events including BVF and Vanfest. Dubfreeze is held inside Bingley Hall just outside Stafford and for as long as I can remember has been well attended. The layout of the hall allows one of the side-halls to be used as a concours area, the main hall being used for traders and club stands. We arrived to set up the club stand a little after 8.00am. The VWOC (GB) club stand was situated to the left of the main entrance. The doors opened to the public at 9.00am and from the get-go we were busy, so much so that I didn't have the chance to take any photos - "sorry". The club shop did very well, attracting a number of new members and re-establishing one or two old contacts - an excellent start to the year. Again, with the Club shop being so busy we didn't get to see much of the show but it was typically Dubfreeze - a great place to pick up that elusive part to finish off your project ready for the forthcoming season. If you visited Dubfreeze this year and would like to tell us about your visit please get in touch with the and we can add it to our 'Show Reports' pages. We did manage to get hold of a copy of the Show & Shine results - thanks to Terry - click on the link on the right for the results page. A couple of years ago we thought that the VW show scene was suffering from a drop in visitor attendance, however, last year we witnessed an increase in visitors to the shows, notably, to us at least, Stanford Hall, BVF and Vanfest. Dubfreeze this year, was heaving, I cannot recall it being so busy. We spoke to many visitors who had to park in the overflow car park on the other side of the main road because of the large number of visitors, and that was before mid morning. Good news for the show season - long may it continue. |
